Motorhome hire in Stockholm

Stockholm: Stockholm is regarded as one of the most beautiful cities in Europe and rightly so. As RV visitors will discover, the city has waterways - full of boats in the summer months - everywhere being made up of a number of islands interlinked by bridges. Aside from wonderful shopping in department stores like Åhlens and NK, Stockholm has masses of small, independent shops.

Gamla Stan, the oldest part of the town, is a particularly wonderful place to wander around. It's architecture is spectacular, its shops numerous and different and its restaurants equisite. Close by you will also find Kungliga Slottet, the Royal Palace.

Stockholm has numerous museums. Hallwylska Museet is most interesting. It was once a private palace that has been meticulously preserved thanks to its former owner, and avid collector, Wilhelmina von Hallwyl. Nationalmuseet is Sweden's largest art museum; Moderna Museet houses an excellent collection of modern art and next door is Arkitekturmuseet exhibiting displays on Swedish and international architecture. Nordiska Museet is located in an equisite building and houses a fine collection of Swedish items from 1520 to the present day. Nearby, and not to be missed is Vasamuseet where visitors can see the Vasa, a ship that sank on its maiden voyage in 1628 and which was salvaged in 1961. The brackish waters around Stockholm meant the boat was very well preserved and artefacts from it include cutlery, crockery, clothing, tools and more.

Stockholm also has places of interest for children. Junibacken, near Vasamuseet, recreates the fantasy scenes of Astrid Lindgren's childrens books. There is a 10-minutes train journey past miniature landscapes and afterwards children can let their imagination run riot playing in Pippi Longstocking's house whilst parents enjoy a little sit down.

Gröna Lund Tivoli is a fun park, ideal for grown-ups and children. It is located on Djurgården, by the water and can be easily reached by boat, tram or bus. Close by is another Swedish anomaly, Skansen. This is essentially a zoo and an open air building museum. It was founded in 1861 by Arthur Hazelius who wanted to let visitors see how Swedes lived in previous times and there are about 150 traditional houses located there now.

These places of interest are but a few available in and around Stockholm and RV travellers are urged to get a guide of Stockholm to help them to make the most of this fantastic city. In addition, it may be worthwhile buying a Stockholm Card which gives free access to a number of museums and attractions.
